Meet God in our Midst

First United Methodist Church Worship

Our regular worship services are generally traditional in style. We use hymnals, and the organ or piano are the main musical instruments. Various musical groups add vocal or instrumental music to our services. Several different children and youth groups contribute music or drama to worship on a monthly basis.

The Sacraments

First United Methodist Church practices sacramental hospitality which means that all are invited to participate in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Holy Communion is offered in the worship service on the first Sunday of each month as well as at special services during Holy Week and Advent. The Sacrament of Baptism is offered periodically as scheduled by the pastor. Anyone interested in baptism is invited to contact the pastor or the church office.

Worshiping with Children

First United Methodist Church of McHenry is a multi-generational church and welcomes God's children at all ages! A fully staffed nursery is available for children up to the age of 5. This lets both parents and young children adjust to worshiping together gradually. During the 10:15 a.m. worship service a "Time with the Children" is held when children are invited to the front to share in a story or lesson. Special papers are provided which capture some of the themes from that morning's worship service in age appropriate pictures and activities. We welcome children in leadership roles, as choirs sing or read together, and as youth serve as acolytes, liturgists, ushers, etc.
